Fire Safety Tips

Utilize the 911 number in case of emergencies.

1.  Teach children 911 is for emergencies only.

2.  Teach children 911 and how to dial the numbers on the phone.

FIRE ESCAPE PLANS AND FIRE DRILLS.

1.  Draw a fire escape plan and teach all family members.

2.  Take  your cell or portable phone with you.

3.  Have several exits to safety in your plans.

4.  Teach everyone if there is a fire they should crawl on hands and knees to go
      the nearest exit.

5.  Teach everyone in the house if the door is hot, do not open it. If the door is cool
      to the touch that its cool to open it a peek out.

6.  Teach everyone to call or crouch quickly using the primary escape route.

7.   Close all doors behind you if possible.

8.   Have a designated meeting place outside where everyone will meet.

9.  Once outside make sure everyone is safe and call 911.

10. Teach everyone once your out STAY OUT.

11. Teach everyone that the fire department has the training and equipment and
       should be the only ones to inside a burning building.

12.  Practice the fire escape plan.

SMOKE ALARMS

1.  If you do not have smoke alarms purchase them (they are relatively inexpensive)
     or check with your local fire co.

2.  Make sure you have enough smoke alarms  in your home. Make sure you have
     a smoke alarm in every sleeping area.

3.  Make sure they are properly installed and mounted at the highest point on walls
     or on ceilings.

4.  If they are the alarms you install on walls they should be mounted 4 to 12
     inches from the ceiling. Ceiling alarms should be mounted 4 inches away
     from walls.

TEST AND CHANGE BATTERIES

5. Test each smoke alarm on a monthly bases.

6. Put new batteries in your smoke detector at least once a year. (Usually done when
    the time changes in the spring.)
